Wind, Flood Warnings in Effect For West Islip

Gusts between 40-50 mph expected.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind and flood advisory for the Southwest Suffolk County area.  

Gusts between 40-50 mph--and as high as 55 mph--are expected through the afternoon.  The advisory is in effect until 6 p.m.

The Weather Service is urging area residents to be ready for scattered tree and limb damage.  In addition, moderate to heavy rainfall will cause ponding in road surfaces and cause flooding in poor drainage areas.

The storm has caused power outages throughout Long Island, and as of 1 p.m., only a handful in West Islip.
