West Islip Week in Review

This time, the spotlight was on the people of West Islip.

Just in case you missed any of Patch's coverage, we've provided a Sportscenter of sorts; the highlights of last week's stories.

On Monday, West Islip's Amanda Williams began the week with a buzz, as she participated in a Zumba demonstration in front of nearly 10,000 people at MSG.  Patch writer Michele Antonio was at Sagtikos Manor as auto enthusiasts gathered for the annual Antique and Classic Car Show.

Tuesday, West Islip residents reacted to the passing of longtime and controversial Yankees Owner George Steinbrenner.  Joe Rizza provided us with a profile on Republican Rick Lazio and Councilman Parrington gave a hero's welcome to local soldier Sean Fleming.

Wednesday was a busy day as it provided us with the sad and breaking news of a Bay Shore man killed in an auto accident.  The Board of Education met and thought about changing the annual Sunday graduation date.  Things lightened up with the story of how Good Samaritan Tom Valenti and his family threw a mobster-themed fundraiser party.

On Thursday, I browsed Craigslist to see what kind of summer items were up for sale.   Elise Pearlman wrote a story that landed on all patch sites about a film based on the Lucero murder that will be on display at the LI Film Festival.   And we found out what projects the West Islip Association currently has their hands in.

Friday led to inspiring news of two West Islip women who received plaques at the new Suffolk "Women's Wall of Fame."  Antonio then provided us with another West Islip history lesson and explained how Wagstaff lane came to be.

On Saturday, we formed a list of all the local open houses that were happening over the weekend (check it out for today's action).

And I'm glad to announce that West Islip Patch has new, talented writers on the way, which will enable us to expand our coverage in the coming weeks.
