West Islip Week in Review

Record-setting temperatures highlight the holiday week that was.

I always found it interesting how conversations, especially ones early in the morning, are simply reflections of the day's weather.  Consider this  example:

Tim:  Hey John, how are you today pal?

John:  Great Tim, thanks.  How bout this weather we're having, huh?

I can't decide if it's a cop out, or a perfect way to break the ice.  But this "weather talk" is nearly universal.  And in my time covering news, there's no bigger story than when the weather is severe.  It trumps all other issues and this summer's been no exception.  The record-setting temperatures were hogging the headlines once again this past week.

The week started off with a bang.  As in Fourth of July fireworks bang.

Then mother nature began wreaking havoc.  It got hot, to say the least, and as Paul Vecchione reported, the warm ocean temperatures brought some unwanted visitors to the beach

The weather were so severe that Suffok County had to provide "cool-off centers."

But there were some West Islip residents who were actually enjoying the outdoors.

Even the price of West Islip homes are heating up.

The only "cool" story came from Jessica Beile about superstar Luger, Aiden Kelly.

As far as history goes, Michele Antonio took a look back at the history of Sagtikos Manor and the Weeks and Muncie families.

And finally, Linda Condreras provided us with a great story about how West Islip built itslef into a lacrosse empire.
