West Islip Public Library Budget Passes

Voters approved the library's $3.6 million budget for 2013-2014.

Voters approved a $3.6 million budget on Tuesday for the West Islip Public Library.

Residents passed the 2013-2014 budget by a vote of 288 to 74. It will take effect for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2013.

The budget came in at a total of $$3, 617,612, yielding a tax levy of 2.27 percent. The increase amounts to approximately $9.18 more per year, or 76 cents per month, for the average household.

“The Board of Trustees of the West Islip Public Library wish to express their
appreciation to all those residents who participated in this year’s vote,” said Board President Jim Christophersen. “Both the Board of Trustees and the library staff look forward to another year of informing, entertaining, and connecting community members to each other and the wider world of information."

Former Board President Joan Schumacher ran unopposed and was re-elected to the library's Board of Trustees for a five-year term.
