Week in Review: Man Injured in Motorcycle Crash, Lions Take State Title

Anthony Oliveri, 53, of West Babylon, has been identified as the motorcyclist involved in Friday afternoon's crash.

According to New York State police, Oliveri was driving a 2005 Harley Davidson in the left lane of the northbound Robert Moses Causeway when he lost control of the bike, causing him to strike the center median.

West Islip took home its fifth state title with a 12-7 win over Ithaca in the Class A championship game Saturday at Middletown High School.

The game was a microcosm of the Lions season; a slow start, strong goalie play to keep the team in the game, and then an offensive explosion in the third quarter.

West Islip High School alumni Pat Cantwell was selected in the third round of the 2012 Major League Baseball draft Tuesday.

Cantwell, hot off the heels of a victory in the Coral Gables Regional with Stony Brook University's Seawolves, was chosen by the Texas Rangers.

West Islip High School's Class of 2012 Salutatorian is Eric Metodiev, a consummate learner and well-rounded student who has been involved in many of the school's organizations and co-curricular activities throughout his high school career.

Participants in the third annual Bike to the Beach event, which supports autism organizations and research, made a pit stop at West Islip's during their from Manhattan to Westhampton Beach Friday.
