UPDATE: Thunderstorm Causes Power Outages in West Islip

More than 485 customers affected by outages Friday afternoon, according to LIPA.

UPDATE 2: Power has been restored to all but a handful of customers, according to LIPA's Storm Center's Outage Map.

Estimates show those customers still affected should expect power by 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

UPDATE 1: As of 4:30 p.m., LIPA is reporting approximately 485 customers in West Islip are without power.

The power company estimates that power will be restored by 7 p.m. Friday.

Customers in the dark can report outages via text message or telephone:

  • Report an outage by phone: Call 1-800-490-0075.

ORIGINAL: Approximately 390 customers in West Islip are without power following a thunderstorm Friday afternoon, according to the Long Island Power Authority Storm Center.

As of 4 p.m. the largest outages are located in the vicinity of Udall Lane, just south of the Southern State Parkway and North of Sunrise Highway.

The area is under severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. Friday, though the National Weather Service predicts storms in West Islip will end by 6 p.m.

Most should expect to have power back between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., LIPA estimates.

This is only the beginning and in short time many New Yorker's will be forced to remain in their homes fearing one of these animals will make them their pray. I for one believe in the old adage, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Politics get dirty enough as is and I think this will increase participation and ultimately give us a better Board of Education.
