This Week at the WI Public Library

A list of activities held at the library for the week of August 1, 2011.

Each week, the plays host to numerous activities and unique events for its residents.  Whether it's for a child, tween, teen, adult or senior, there's always something for everyone.

Every Monday, West Islip Patch will provide a list of all the happenings at the library for the week.

Wednesday

Chef Rich Kanowsky is back at the library this evening, but he's not teaching his .  He's showing residents how to make Spanish tapas.  There is a $5 materials fee and you must call ahead to see if there's still room.

Blood Pressure Screening (2-3 p.m.) - This community service is brought to you through the auspices of Suffolk County Treasurer Angie Carpenter's office and the Consolation Residence nursing staff.

Thursday

New York State Pre-licensing Course (4-8:30 p.m.) - You must attend this course to be eligible to take the road test.  Be sure to bring a valid Learner's Permit,  black pen and the $40 registration fee to the class.

Design Your Own Umbrella (3-4 p.m.)
Help celebrate merry ol’England by designing our very own umbrella. **Please note that the paint we will be using is permanent so wear appropriate clothing. $3 material fee. 

5th Annual Sidewalk Chalk Art Show (10:45- 11:30 a.m.) - Sponsored by the WIIT (WI Involved Teens) Council, kids (grades 1-6) will have the opportunity to show off their artistic abilities by using multi-colored chalk and decorating the sidewalks. Win prizes and let the public see your work. Limit: 15.

Friday

Origami Around the World (3-4 p.m.)
Discover origami from the land of your heritage.  Or just have fun folding with friends.  

Friday Afternoon at the Movies (Starting at 1 p.m.)- For a list of upcoming films, please visit the Library Blog

Seniors Fitness Classes (11 a.m.-12 p.m.)- This is a series of gentle exercises with Vicki Luckman geared toward increasing range of motion and flexibility. Bring 1-3 lb. hand weights, a water bottle, and a face towel.  Fee: $15.  Limit: 40.
