The Week Ahead: School Budget Meeting, Easter Basket Drive

A look at events happening in West Islip this week.

Toddlers and their parents can enjoy storytime at the library on Tuesday. Storytime for tots ages 24 months to 41 months will be held at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

Also at the library on Tuesday, the Sagtikos Manor Historical Society will be hosting a lecture on the history of Couture Hats. There will be a hands-on workshop after the discussion, which begins at 7 p.m.

Helping Hands in West Islip will be accepting donations of Easter gift baskets to distribute to children in local homeless shelters and community shelters. Baskets can be dropped off at the American Legion Post on Wednesday from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Volunteers are also needed during those hours to help wrap baskets.

The West Islip School District hosts another budget worksession on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Beach Street cafeteria.

On Thursday, American Sign Language students at West Islip High School will sign along to their favorite songs for ASL Idol. There is a $7 cover charge, and refreshments and raffles will be sold. All proceeds will benefit GRO, an organization which helps the deaf in underdeveloped countries. The show starts at 6 p.m.

The West Islip Public Library is also showing a free movie Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. Coffee and cookies will be served.
