Southwest Suspending MacArthur Flights Friday Afternoon

Airline to postpone operations at 3:20 p.m. with plans to resume flights Saturday morning.

Southwest Airlines will suspend all flights at Long Island MacArthur Airport Friday afternoon as a powerful Nor’easter approaches the area.

According to information on the airport’s website, Southwest will cease operations at 3:20 p.m. and is planning to resume flights at 6:15 a.m. on Saturday. Southwest customers should check Southwest.com or call the airline at 800-435-9792.

US Airways Express, as of 9 a.m., was reporting scattered cancelations. Those holding tickets on US Airways Express should check the airline’s website or call 800-428-4322.

On Thursday, both airlines at MacArthur said they were waving change fees for travelers heading to and from the airport.

The Long Island Rail Road, as of 10 a.m. Friday, was running on schedule, and the Airport Shuttle was making its normal rounds at the Ronkonkoma train station. For LIRR schedule information, visit http://lirr42.mta.info/.
