Snow, Chilling Arctic Air Headed to West Islip

Temperatures will see a major drop below-normal this week as an arctic air mass settles in overhead.

Get ready for Old Man Winter's biggest return so far this Winter Season!

An arctic cold front that started pushing across the Northeast on Sunday afternoon will continue to blow cold air from the north, dropping temperatures and bringing West Islip some snowfall throughout the week.

The cold front will drop temperatures from the 50's, where record highs were around during this past weekend, all the way down to 33° for Monday, 27° on Tuesday, 24° on Wednesday and 27° on Thursday, according to National Weather Service forecasts.

The normal high for Long Island during this time of the year is around 38°.

Evening lows will be even colder as temperatures are expected to drop into the mid-teens during the week at night. Wind chills will be a major factor, even with light winds making it feel several degrees colder.

A light snow storm will push through the area on Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning, dropping anywhere from 1 to 4 inches of snow across Deer Park and North Babylon. The snow should be tapered off before Tuesday noon.

Winds should remain light during the duration of the storm, but heavy snowfall can create for hazardous driving conditions, including black ice and covered roadways.

Snow is also forecasted by the National Weather Service on Wednesday and Thursday evening, although likely showers at that time. A storm is being monitored by forecast models for the end of the week, but the exact track, amount of precipitation and timing of that storm is yet to be determined.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook as of 12 p.m. Monday for the imminent snowfall.

Patch will continue to monitor the storm and keep you updated if any changes arise.

You can thank all these POS politicians for the new gun legislation designed to make law abidingRead More citizens give up their second amendment rights out of sheer frustration and incontinence of owning a gun legally for increases in savage on citizen violence. This is only the beginning and in short time many New Yorker's will be forced to remain in their homes fearing one of these animals will make them their pray. I for one believe in the old adage, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Has anyone been able to find out if we are losing money renting this building to this for profitRead More preschool? If I under stood correctly from previous post's, there may be some friendship with one or more BOE members which paved the way for their lease.
