News Nearby: Mother Accused of Drinking at Bar With Kids in Car

Sachem

A Bay Shore woman was arrested early last Sunday morning after police say she left her four children in the car while she drank alcohol at a Holbrook bar. 

Police say Maria Cepparo, 40, left her children--a 13-year-old son, who has autism, an 8-year-old son and two 6-year-old twin daughters--in her 2012 Ford Focus that was parked in a fire zone in front of Momo's Sports Bar and Grill around 12:15 a.m. The car was left unlocked and without heat while Cepparo was in the Main Street bar, police said.

West Islip

A Bay Shore man is accused of stealing equipment from boats at West Islip Marina on April 27, according to Islip Town officials. 

Eric Brabant was arrested and charged with trespassing and two counts of criminal possession of stolen property after Islip Town Park Rangers allegedly discovered emergency equipment and gasoline cans in a car driven by Brabant.

Deer Park-North Babylon

Police have identified the victims killed and critically injured in Friday’s two-car crash on Commack Road in Deer Park. Robert Fattibene, 53, of Smithtown and Herver Leonel Garcia Munoz, 32, of Brentwood were pronounced dead at the scene by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office.   

Yesenia Marilu Martinez Vasquez, 24, and three-year old Justin Martinez, both passengers in the vehicle driven by Garcia Munoz, are at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip in critical condition, police said.

Lindenhurst

Suffolk Police have identified the man killed in the one-vehicle crash at North Fulton Avenue earlier this morning as Rommiek Perry, 33, of Central Islip.

According to police, Perry was operating a 2007 Suzuki heading East on Sunrise Highway, apparently at a high rate of speed, when his vehicle hit a guard rail and overturned near North Fulton at 3:31 a.m.

Patchogue

A Patchogue man whose boat was stuck on a sandbar on the ocean side of the Old Inlet breach on Fire Island was rescued by Suffolk County Marine Bureau Thursday morning, Suffolk County Police said.

Police responded to a 911 call from the boater around 12:45 a.m. Police say the operator of the boat became disoriented in heavy fog, and that his 19-foot Carolina Skiff boat with a 50 horsepower outboard engine was taken out into the ocean through the inlet

West Babylon

Another day, another new store for our area. 

The Great South Bay Shopping Center will be introducing a new store later this year as discount chain Five Below gets ready to move into a new space. 

Construction began at 943 Montauk Highway earlier last week at the former Avenue storefront. Workers have been busy inside putting up new walls, lighting and tearing down the storefront's awning.
