News Nearby: Teen Bicyclist Seriously Hurt in Lindenhurst Crash

Lindenhurst

A teenage Lindenhurst resident was seriously injured in a collision with a car on Hoffman Avenue Thursday afternoon, according to Suffolk County Police.

Police told Patch that Joseph Calabrese, 16, of Lindenhurst was traveling southbound on his bicycle at 4:47 p.m. on Wellwood Avenue when he rode the bike into a 2010 Volkswagen Routan heading westbound on Hoffman Avenue.

Deer Park-North Babylon

North Babylon residents approved a $112 million school budget during Tuesday's revote. 

The budget passed with 64 percent of the vote (2,369-1,334). 

The budget, with a 3.4 percent hike in the school tax levy, pierces the state's tax cap and required a 60 percent supermajority vote to pass.

Sachem

The Sachem School District's 2013-14 budget passed on Tuesday night with a whopping 71.2 percent approval out of 12,141 votes. The total vote was 8,644 in favor to 3,497 opposed.

"We have a great community and great school district,” Sachem Superintendent James Nolan stated in a release. “During hard times it’s tough and I believe this is a loud statement that people still believe in our school community. This is a very loud and positive statement.”

West Islip

A postal worker who died after a car crash in Lloyd Harbor was identified Wednesday as a West Islip resident. Suffolk County Police said Alan Nobile died Monday night at Huntington Hospital. His small truck was struck near the intersection of Banbury Lane and West Neck Road. The vehicle struck a tree and Nobile was ejected from the truck.

Medford

Suffolk County Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying and locating a man they said burglarized a Medford pizzeria.

According to police, a man broke the front glass door of Pizza Corner at 2799 Route 112 and stole cash from the office. The incident happened on May 22 at 6:55 a.m.

A 20-year-old Dix Hills man was killed in a single-car crash on the Long Island Expressway in Melville last Sunday morning, according to Suffolk Police. 

Blake Marcus was driving a 2001 Acura eastbound on the LIE when he apparently lost control of the vehicle just east of Exit 49 around 4:25 a.m., police said.
