LIRR Trims Weekend Service

Track work project leads to schedule changes.

The Long Island Rail Road’s track modernization project on its main line in Mineola will change up weekend service for Babylon branch riders all through August.

The project, which involves new rail and repair work, will affect the Huntington, Port Jefferson, Oyster Bay, Ronkonkoma and Far Rockaway lines as well.

The LIRR says the project will affect 24,000 customers traveling east and west of Jamaica each Saturday. On Sundays, the work will affect about 1,200 customers eastbound and 1,700 customers westbound.
