LIRR Running Extra Afternoon Trains, Rush Hour Service Possibly 'Curtailed'

With blizzard nearing, three extra trains leaving NYC for Babylon Friday afternoon.

With the worst of the weather set to begin in the p.m. hours Friday, the Long Island Rail Road has announced that it will run extra eastbound trains during the afternoon to get commuters home.

Eight additional trains will depart from NYC between 1:46 p.m. and 3:48 p.m. On the Babylon Branch, three extra trains are on tap:

  • a 2:32 p.m. train from Penn Station running express to Lynbrook and then all local stops to Babylon
  • a 3 p.m. train from Penn Station with stops at Jamaica and Rockville Centre and then all local stops to Babylon
  • a 3:31 p.m. train from Penn Station running express to Rockville Centre and then all local stops to Babylon

"Customers are urged to take advantage of this service because the possibility exists that regular evening schedule may need to be curtailed," a statement on the LIRR's website reads. "If snow accumulations reach between 10-13 inches, the LIRR may have to suspend service for safety of customers and to give LIRR crews chance to clear snow from tracks and third rail."

The latest update from the National Weather Service is calling for up to 20 inches of snow to slam the area before the storm ends Saturday afternoon.

For the latest information on train service, the LIRR urges riders to visit www.mta.info or monitor LIRR service alerts via email. Customers can also call 511, the New York State Travel Information line, and say: Long Island Rail Road.

You can thank all these POS politicians for the new gun legislation designed to make law abidingRead More citizens give up their second amendment rights out of sheer frustration and incontinence of owning a gun legally for increases in savage on citizen violence. This is only the beginning and in short time many New Yorker's will be forced to remain in their homes fearing one of these animals will make them their pray. I for one believe in the old adage, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Has anyone been able to find out if we are losing money renting this building to this for profitRead More preschool? If I under stood correctly from previous post's, there may be some friendship with one or more BOE members which paved the way for their lease.
