Jan. 11: Winter Reading Club, Support Groups and Boys Basketball

Here's what's happening Tuesday in the West Islip.

Check this list everyday for a glimpse at what's happening around West Islip... from school events to sports games and Town of Islip functions, there is a sampling of everything.

1.  Beginning Mah Jong (10 a.m.-12 p.m., )

Mah Jong is a Chinese game similar to the card game Rummy, but you use tiles and a card to determine what combinations can be played. If you've never played Mah Jong, or if you haven't played in years and your game needs to be refreshed, then check out this program.  In four sessions, Sue Kalish will teach you what you need to know to play this ancient game.  Fee: $5.  Limit: 24.

2.  Varsity Boys Basketball (6 p.m.)

The is desperately seeking a victory early on in their season.  They'll look to get one against 2-3 Connetquot at home.  Head down to the high school to support the Lions in their quest for their second win of the year.

3.  Support Groups (6:30, 7:30 p.m.)

is holding two different support groups on Tuesday evening: Loss of a baby and a prostate cancer support group will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m.

4.  High School Senior Play (7 p.m.)

The WIHS seniors will be putting on one of their last performances of the year.  Head down to the high school and support the seniors as they begin their farewell tour. 

5.  Women of West Islip Membership Drive (7 p.m.)

The newly formed non-profit women's organization will be holding a membership meeting beginning at 7 p.m. at Farrell's of Brooklyn.  Visit the group's website at www.womenofwestislip.org for more info about our group.
