Good Samaritan Hospital in the News

Joseph Loiacono and Patricia Kurz were both appointed to new positions within the hospital.

Here's how this past week:

- Good Samaritan Hospital's Director of Medical-Surgical Nursing, Patricia Kurz, RN, MPS, CMSRN, NE-BC, was recently appointed for a three-year term to the Medical-Surgical Nurses Certification Board (MSNCB) as the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses representative, the hospital announced.

According to Good Sam, Kurz has served as the past chairperson of MSNCB's Test Development and Item Writing Committee.  MSNCB promotes the highest standards of medical-surgical nursing practice through the development, implementation and coordination of all aspects of the certification process for nurses.

Ms. Kurz has been with Good Samaritan for 30 years, the hospital said.  For the last five years, she has served as the director of the medical-surgical division of nursing.  Prior to that, she was a staff nurse in ICU, nursing director of the Emergency Department (ED), nurse manager of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and clinical specialist for critical care and ED.

- Joseph Loiacono, former vice president of program development for Catholic Health Services (CHS), has joined the management team at Good Samaritan Hospital as a vice president of administration, the hospital said.

According to Good Sam, Loiacono will now be responsible for a wide scope of services such as admitting, housekeeping, nutrition and food services, in addition to many more services.  He resides in Huntington Station with his wife, Susan, and their two children.

CHS, of which Good Sam is a member, is an integrated health care delivery system with six hospitals, three nursing homes, a regional home care and hospice, the hospital said.

Before joining CHS, Loiacono held multiple leadership positions over a span of 24 years with the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.  He received his Bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy from Long Island University and a Master's degree in strategic management from Pace University.
