West Islip residents are again paying more to gas up their vehicles.
The cash price for a regular gallon of gas is nearing $4 per gallon at some stations in the hamlet.
On Montauk Highway, Walson and USA Petroleum — which sit across from each other — both had regular unleaded priced at $3.999 cash. On Higbie Lane, Valero and Gas Stop set their regular unleaded cash price at $3.939.
Newsday, citing information from the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report, reported the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline on Long Island is $4.026, up 28.5 cents over the past month.
Gasoline industry insiders said the recent jump in prices stems in part from supply limitations as oil refineries enter a “regular maintenance period.” In addition, growing demand for oil from China is also impacting worldwide crude oil prices.
