Hurricane Sandy followed by the recent harsh winter weather is having a negative impact on the condition of local roadways throughout West Islip.
Potholes in streets across the hamlet are being felt by motorists, and along one section of Higbie Lane — more formally known as County Road 82 — a large dip in the road has developed in front the shopping center that is home to Best Yet.
Patch cameras recently caught some local drivers discovering the dip for the first time, while others apparently were aware of the hazard and swerved to avoid it.
We have a call into the County’s Department of Public Works to see if they are aware of this potential driving hazard, and if they plan to fix it.
