I was told by the Town of Islip that all homes south of Montauk require an inspection by either the town or a private electrician to deem safe to energize. Does this mean all homes have to be certified or denied (and turned off at the meter) before anyone gets power? We need information.

How do you know when an inspector will be coming? We waited 8 days for power and finally left last night to stay with a relative 45 minutes away. How do you know what to do?

Scott, We'll reach out to the town to get details. Thanks.

I called the town and can't get decent answers. If we're not living home do we have to be home to greet an "inspector", etc. ? Then I'm told "your address is not in the databse "....Are you kidding me. I live off center bay drive, no one has damage around here. This is bulls**t. Its just a way for LIPA to put the blame on someone else.

Steve, I am also your neighbor without power and getting the runaround. The town told me to call back this afternoon that they are dealing with the flood zone residents first. I am burning $30 daily to fuel a generator to keep the oil burner going. It's time for LIPA to get out of the trucks and go door to door to get us powered up. National Grid had a tremendous presence here yesterday and we so appreciated all their compassion and attention to the BBEA residents that were hit hard by Sandy's wrath.

Yes, Joe, my wife spoke to them (national grid) yesterday. They were VERY nice, checked our gas meter, etc. Well,we have to keep calling, over and over. Its frustrating because my house and from what i understand most of the houses near me are in very good shape with no water. Of course the houses down by the clubhouse could be affected if they have electric boxes low in the house near water, etc.

I'm on the border of North and South Sequams Lane Center. It's amazing that two houses away has had power for a week, but they can't reach me. I wonder constantly if I'm being lumped together with the houses further south that have been basically gutted from the storm. I had very little damage and my electric box is dry. National Grid had 20 trucks on my street for 3 days straight. LIPA? I haven't seen one. At least they finally fixed the three power poles on Eaton Lane two days ago, oops, that was an out of state crew, not LIPA. I don't think LIPA can zip their own pants without help. I've been living in my house for 9 days now guarding the nights against looters. This is nuts.

You are correct. Unfortunately, any thing south of montauk highway IS lumped in with the worst gutted houses on the water. We all have similar stories.

They simply don't explain it clearly enough. Even the number they provide in the letter answers with a rude message saying this is NOT the number to call about the inspection process. It's incredible and downright criminal at this point. What the heck do we do? It's freezing, dark and miserable. And people with kids and pregancies are really struggling. It's totally surreal. -Center Bay Dr.

Hi guys, they simply don't explain it clearly enough. Even the number they provide in the letter answers with a rude message saying this is NOT the number to call about the inspection process. Same old pattern - It's incredible and downright criminal at this point. What the heck do we do? It's freezing, dark and miserable. And people with kids and pregancies are really struggling. It's totally surreal.
