West Islip Girls Softball Adavance In Playoffs

Catch highlights from the game on MSG Varsity at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

The 10th seeded West Islip Girl's Softball team advanced to the second round of the playoffs by upsetting 7th seeded Hauppauge. This is the program's first playoff victory since 2008.

They beat Hauppauge 5-3, Gaby Cinquemani singled in Annie Grabinsky and Marissa Motisi with 2 outs in the top of the 7th inning to break 3-3 tie. Marissa Motisi was 2 for 2 with 2 rbi's and Alysa Monteverde went all the way for the victory. Annie Grabinski made a dazzling defensive diving play in the 6th inning to keep the game even. Shannon Cronin also made a diving catch in right field to thwart any rally by Hauppauge in the 7th inning.

This team is exactly that a--TEAM made up of players who pick each other up and play together as one unit. Congrats to each and every member of this team.
