The CVS shopping center on Montauk Highway in West Islip will have a new tenant, a walk-in medical clinic, by the end of this year.
The Premier Urgent Care center will open in a 3,500-square-foot space, yet to be built, which will be an add-on to building on the west side of the lot that now houses six small stores.
According to the property owner, there will also be additional parking provided and the current stores in the small strip mall will remain as tenants.
Premier Care operates 365 day a year, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends, along with special hours on some holidays. A spokesperson said a Premier clinic typically has 40 to 50 patients no a daily basis and no appointments are necessary.
The medical practice provider operates several such clinics across Long Island. Its most recent clinic opening was in Great Neck and it also plans to open a Lake Grove location.
The center has received all needed town permits, according to Premier Care, and no change of zone or use was needed.
According to Premier Care, its centers offer an alternative
to an emergency room and are staffed with board-certified doctors specializing
in emergency medicine. Centers provide digital x-ray, laboratory testing of
various illnesses such as strep throat and the flu, and the equipment for
treating common orthopedic injuries and wounds needing stitches.
“Our emergency physicians see patients of all ages from babies to seniors in a safe, confidential, and competent environment. Premier Care refers patients back to their primary doctors to maintain the same level of care,” states the company’s website.
