Stop & Shop Strike Vote Postponed

Union representing more than 1,000 workers said it continues working to find "mutually agreeable solutions."

Shoppers at the West Islip Stop & Shop will not see any changes to current in-store services as the union representing more than 1,100 workers with the grocery store chain has again postponed a strike vote.

In a statement released late Monday, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union said the vote was delayed while the union continues working to find “mutually agreeable solutions to remaining bargaining issues.”

UFCW Local 342, which represents meat, seafood and deli workers at Stop & Shop stores throughout Long Island as well as the five boroughs of New York City, originally planned to hold a strike vote this past Friday. That vote was initially delayed until Monday.

Stop & Shop operates one store in West Islip on Union Blvd.

According to union officials, Stop & Shop is proposing wage freezes, reductions in pension benefits, cuts to the hours of part-time workers and changes to healthcare coverage. The union said it has countered with freezes in healthcare and pension costs, “fair” wage increases and no changes in any other conditions.

You can thank all these POS politicians for the new gun legislation designed to make law abidingRead More citizens give up their second amendment rights out of sheer frustration and incontinence of owning a gun legally for increases in savage on citizen violence. This is only the beginning and in short time many New Yorker's will be forced to remain in their homes fearing one of these animals will make them their pray. I for one believe in the old adage, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Has anyone been able to find out if we are losing money renting this building to this for profitRead More preschool? If I under stood correctly from previous post's, there may be some friendship with one or more BOE members which paved the way for their lease.

I think Proposition 2 is a great idea, in the current structure you have to "call out" anRead More individual basically saying "I think you are doing a particularly bad job". Politics get dirty enough as is and I think this will increase participation and ultimately give us a better Board of Education.
