Reporting School Vandalism Can Pay Off in West Islip

Reporting vandalism can put cash in the pocket.

If a West Islip resident happens to see vandals in action at a district schools building they might just be able to cash in.

While the district has off-duty policeman and security guards patrolling buildings and grounds, the public's help is also necessary to stop vandalism and potential break-ins.

In a notice on the district website school leaders state that the community can help by notifying the district's security personnel and or the local police.

The Board of Education has determined that it may, under
appropriate circumstances, and as determined to be in the best interest of the district and community, offer rewards of up to $1,000 to individuals providing information that leads to the arrest and conviction of individuals committing misdemeanors or felonies involving vandalism to school property. The phone number is 893-3347.

The Suffolk County Police Department has set up a Crime Stoppers “Tips Line” at 1-800-220-TIPS.  A caller receives a code number and remains anonymous when giving information to a police officer. If the information leads to an arrest, Crime Stoppers will authorize a reward of up to $2,000. The caller, using the given code number, can pick up the reward while remaining anonymous.  West Islip residents are urged to use this number if they see something suspicious or have knowledge of a crime that's been committed.
