WI Under Construction: A Photo Tour

Several West Islip schools and businesses are facing heavy construction.

With the start of school less than one month away (sorry kids, but it's true), three schools remain under construction as of Monday, August 9.

Work is still in progress at West Islip high school, Westbrook  Elementary and Paul J. Bellew Elementary, all of which are located on Higbie Lane.  It's interesting to note that when the sites were passed today, the only school having workers on the property was at Bellew.  (Neither the high school nor Westbrook had workers actually working between 2:30pm-3:30pm when the photos for this story were taken.)  The workers at Bellew Elementary said they said they were not working at the other two school sites, and that separate work crews were assigned there.

In addition to the three schools, two businesses remain a work in progress.  Valero Gas Station on Higbie Lane across from Sally's Cycle and the new TD Bank on Montauk Highway across from the 500 Building.  Another building is planned for construction right next to the new bank. However, work has yet to begin on that project.
