West Islip Weekend Planner

We've got a list of events happening around the area once the snow is done.

The snow is falling, and the weekend is on its way. We've got a list of activities happening in and around West Islip once you're done digging out.

Catch a musical adaptation of "Sleeping Beauty" at the Studio Theater in Lindenhurst on Saturday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10.

Young adults in grades 6 through 12 can enjoy a party and Valentine's Day crafts at the West Babylon Library on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Participants can register at the library.

Acoustic folk duo Weevos is performing at All The Perks Cafe in West Babylon on Saturday starting at 3 p.m.

At the Deer Park Library, kids can make crafts during the walk-in session on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All ages are welcome. No registration required. Children under 11 must remain with an adult. Child needs to be present and show his/her Deer Park Library Card to participate.

Enjoy a Chinese Tea Ceremony at the West Islip Public Library, taking place Sunday at 2 p.m. in Room A.

The Lindenhurst Rotary Club is hosting a Pasta Dinner on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Firemen's Pavilion in Lindenhurst. For adults, $15 gets you dinner, salad, dessert, coffee, tea and soda. Children under the age of 12 cost $5. There will be a cash bar and raffles. Proceeds will benefit the Rotary Club Sandy Project.

If you don't mind the snow, the Ice Rink at Tanger Outlets at the Arches in Deer Park is open and ready for skaters. Stop in this weekend on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

This is only the beginning and in short time many New Yorker's will be forced to remain in their homes fearing one of these animals will make them their pray. I for one believe in the old adage, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Politics get dirty enough as is and I think this will increase participation and ultimately give us a better Board of Education.
