West Islip Residents Tell Us Where Stop Signs Are Needed

We asked which roads you think help is needed.

On Monday, we asked readers to tell us which roads in the area were in desperate need of a stop sign. Many responded with their suggestions of local roads where they have seen too many accidents or people are speeding and need to be slowed down.

Many people suggested roads where needed stop signs while some said stop signs get ignored and there needs to be traffic lights at troublesome corners. Other lamented that stop signs have become "optional" for some drivers making for very dangerous situations on the road.

Here is a sample of what people told us:

Nanci DeLucia: We've been fighting for stop signs and more street lights on that speed strip Udall Rd! No one wants to listen while our children are getting hurt and sadly killed on that road!

Liam Murphy: Udall Rd and Garek

Harris: Washington ave and Hancock rd. hunter ave and Hancock rd. even down udall there should be some along the way. I don't understand or get it that on the main road people are doing 50 mph where it says 30 or 35 mph. And why there are no signs says residential area care for your neighbors or children at play. Some type of campaign for awareness. Also down some residential streets why is it the same speed 30mph it's a little fast when kids are playing. Speed bumps should be added. I think it's was a good idea for the new light bulbs in the street lamps. Now you can see the kids at night walking.

Mom8: I agree with Liam. Udall and Gerek is a perfect spot for a traffic light.

Michael Salatti: What would it matter? It's not like anyone even stops at them.

Jim DeCastro: Amen, Michael - was about to say EXACTLY the same thing. That would be a better Q - where do people NOT stop?

Jacqueline Gonzalez-Monte: omg i was going to say the same thing....we need cops sitting at them
