West Islip General Store Built in 1922 Now Gone

We asked you to guess where this historical photo was taken.

On Monday we asked you to identify this building in West Islip.

This little general store in West Islip once stood on the corner of Hawley Avenue and Higbie Lane according to a post on the website What Was There and attributed to the West Islip Historical Society. According to the post, it was "originally built by early West Islip immigrant Alec Kaczenowski in 1922."

"In the 1950s it also served as a Babylon Post Office substation for West Islip residents," the post reads.

Unfortunately it was torn down in 2011 "to the dismay of many community members."

Do you remember this general store?
