Weekend Planner: West Islip High School Homecoming Celebration

Plan your weekend around these local events.

The Lions will be out in full force this weekend, as West Islip celebrates Homecoming. Festivities kick off with the parade Saturday and culminate as the Lions face off against North Babylon at 2 p.m. Come out and cheer them on.

The 20th Annual Young People's Bake-Off is also happening Saturday at the West Islip Public Library. Each individual can enter one time, and no group entries are allowed. All entries must be baked at home. All entrants win a prize ribbon, and the first-place winners will receive a cookbook. Drop off your treats between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. along with a written copy of the recipe. Judging will begin at 2 p.m.

Saturday is Comedy Night at the West Islip Fire Department. Tickets are $40, and include dinner. The doors open at 7 p.m.

The West Islip School District and South Shore TRI Coach are sponsoring the first-ever West Islip Tri-Kids Triathalon on Sunday. The event will take place at 8 a.m. at West Islip High School and athletes ages 7 to 14 may participate. All proceeds raised from the triathalon will benefit the West Islip Health and Wellness Alliance.

Popular singer songwriter Gino DiNapoli returns to the library at 2 p.m. on Sunday. He will sing old favorites, as well as renditions of some new songs.
