Wednesday's Events: Helping Hands Toy Drive

Local events happening on Wednesday, Dec. 5.

Helping Hands in West Islip is hosting their annual holiday toy drive for local children in need on from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at American Legion Post 1738. Swing by to drop off new or like-new toy donations, or simply volunteer to wrap gifts.

At the library, you can join in on a knitting circle starting at 7 p.m in Room C. Attendees are requested to bring needles, yarn and a pattern.

Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center is hosting it's "Life Goes On" cancer support group at 11 a.m. The group is free to attend.

Enter a photo of your house decorated for the holidays in our annual "Deck The House" comtest for a chance to win $100,000 for West Islip Schools and $500 to pay your electric bills.

This is only the beginning and in short time many New Yorker's will be forced to remain in their homes fearing one of these animals will make them their pray. I for one believe in the old adage, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

I think Proposition 2 is a great idea, in the current structure you have to "call out" anRead More individual basically saying "I think you are doing a particularly bad job". Politics get dirty enough as is and I think this will increase participation and ultimately give us a better Board of Education.
