VMCLI To Host Joey Fan Appreciation Day Sunday

The West Islip-based vet invites the public to meet the once-abused puppy this weekend.

Joey, the abused pitbull who captured the attention of thousands of Long Islanders after he was found abused and malnourished on the side of the road in August, will meet his fans on Sunday during a special event at Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island.

Joey Fan Appreciation Day will take place on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the West Islip vet center on Sunrise Highway.

In addition to meeting Joey, attendees can enjoy music, snacks, face-painting and giveaways. The event will be held rain or shine. Members from the Town of Islip Animal Shelter will also be there to celebrate.

Joey has made major progress since arriving at the vet, starving with a spinal injury, following his rescue. He now walks, though with an abnormal gait, and has more than doubled his body weight.

Fans who want to attend Sunday can RSVP through the event's Facebook page.
