Just like any other south shore community in Islip, some West Islilp residents are truly hoping that a Trader Joe’s will come to town in 2014.

But that isn’t the only wish list item locals have when it comes to wanted improvements and changes in West Islip.

“It could be done on Union. Parking is already available. All we would need to start is a coffee shop a lunch spot (sandwich/panini - not pizza) and a cute gift store. I would also like to thank the owners of the strop mall where 7-11 is. They did a beautiful face lift instead of running it to the ground and building a new one,” Yonkasky wrote in response to Patch’s informal Facebook page.

Bavaro noted she is not in favor of any Dollar Store coming into empty storefronts, such as the recently closed King Kullen. Jen De Matteo would love to see a Wild By Nature or Trader Joe’s at that specific location, and Montemurro-Clegg would also love a Trader Joe’s.

Lower taxes is tops on Thomas Panico’s list and a Starbucks is the big change wanted by Desiree Montemurro-Clegg.

Rick DeClue would like to see an additional railroad crossing besides the Higbie Lane option.
