Suffolk Executive Levy Unveils New "Women's Wall of Fame"

Two West Islip women honored with plaques inside the Dennison Building in Hauppauge.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy recently held a ceremony to unveil a permanent memorial in the H. Lee Dennison Building honoring members of the Suffolk County Women's Hall of Fame.

Sonia Murdock and Lorraine Pace, both of West Islip, were among the 29 recipients of the county's prestigous Woman's Hall of Fame to have a plaque dedicated in their honor.

"It is an honor to recognize all of these remarkable women for all the good things they have done for the county and its residents," Levy said. "These 'hall of famers' are the true pillars of our community and this Wall of Fame will serve as a tribute to them."

According to a county press release, the new wall was installed in the southwest corner of the Dennison Building plaza level, and features individual plaques with the names and pictures of those women who have been honored so far, with plenty of room for future expansion.

The Suffolk's Women's Hall of Fame recognizes the outstanding women who have selflessly devoted their energies and talents to the advancement and well-being of women in the county, sometimes at a great sacrifice.
