DeLuca Elementary Links Together to Fight Hunger

For the ninth year in a row, students and staff at North Babylon’s William E. DeLuca Jr. Elementary School recently helped stock the shelves at the Town of Babylon’s food pantry through a school-wide “Human Food Chain.” 

Collecting 3,500 nonperishable items, the students worked with members of the Babylon Town Hall Annex, located in North Babylon, to bring the food to the building, as well assisted in organizing the shelves.

Suffolk County Legislator Tom Barraga wants to make Higbie Lane and Udall Road in West Islip safer travel routes and has asked local police to step up enforcement of everything from speeding to dangerous maneuvers and illegal turns.The request was borne from residents’ concerns who live in the area and who are worried that sooner or later someone will be killed by the illegal driving activity and disregard for state driving laws, said Barraga.

Labor Department Proposed $169K in Fines for West Babylon Big Lots

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has proposed over $169,000 in fines for repeat and serious violations of workplace safety standards after inspections at the Big Lots store in West Babylon.

The OSHA said they found "several hazardous conditions" in the West Babylon storefront, including exit routes and aisles blocked by piles and pallets of merchandise and improperly stacked boxes containing merchandise.
