West Islip Student Reports Stranger-Danger Incident While Walking Home

West Islip school officials are alerting parents about a stranger-danger incident involving a high school student and are issuing tips on what students should do in the situation of a stranger approaching them.

According to a letter posted on the district’s website Thursday a man attempted to engage a high school student as she walked home on Higbie Lane.

W. Babylon Softball Star Helping Give Back to Cancer-Stricken Teen

A West Babylon softball pro is coming home to help out a Lindenhurst softball player battling a rare form of bone cancer.

West Babylon's Olivia Galati, a professional softball pitcher currently with New York/New Jersey Comets in the National Pro Fastpitch league and Hofstra University graduate, will be taking part in a charity game this Saturday at 7 p.m.

Superintendent Richard Nathan Announces Retirement

Richard Nathan, the superintendent of the Lindenhurst School District, formally announced his retirement during the Board of Education Business Meeting on Wednesday night at the McKenna Administration Building.

Nathan, who has served as the district's superintendent since July 1, 2009, will leave the position effective June 30, 2014 – the technical end of the 2013-2014 school year.

Back-to-Back Robberies of Deer Park Chinese Food Delivery Men

In two separate incidents Wednesday night, Chinese food delivery men were robbed while making deliveries in Deer Park. 

In the first incident, police say a delivery man for Deer Park's Rhine Kitchen Chinese Restaurant was attempting to deliver food on Long Island Avenue at 10:09 p.m. when he was robbed by two unknown males. One robber pushed the delivery man to the ground and robbed him of his iPhone and cash, police said. The robbers fled westbound on Long Island Avenue in a dark-colored sedan.
