Burglars Hit 2 West Islip Homes on Same Day

Burglars hit two West Islip homes in daylight hours on the same day in the past week, according to Suffolk Police.

On Lake Drive South a burglar entered the home through an unlocked door sometime between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Oct. 18 and stole jewelry, according to police.

A residence on Union Boulevard was burglarized the same day, sometime between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., with the thief entering through a kitchen window. The thief stole money, jewelry and an iPad.

LINDENHURST

School Board Revises Underclassman Sporting Criteria

The Lindenhurst School Board passed changes to the district's policy on using non-high school aged players on their teams during the Community Forum held last week at Lindenhurst Middle School.

The policy, Number 4870 or "Underclassman Selection Classification," was revised to allow students in the eighth grade to participate on freshman, junior varsity or varsity level teams at Lindenhurst High School.

BABYLON 

School Board Sends Bond Proposal to Referendum

The Babylon School Board unanimously approved the selection of a date for the bond construction referendum, officially sending their $26.6 million plan to hands of Babylon voters later this year.

The district will hold a special district meeting for the vote on the proposed bond on December 10 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Babylon Memorial Grade School.

Deer Park's Class of 2014 Top 10 Announced

The Deer Park School District has announced the Top 10 students, based on class rank, of the Class of 2014.

Kyle Devine is the valedictorian. 

“We will be hearing about Kyle for years to come,” Deer Park guidance counselor Jessica Gordon said of the Devine during a ceremony and breakfast for the Top 10 students and their families in the high school library recently.
