Local WWII Vet Honored For His Years of Military Service

Joseph Stenglein, 94, served as a map operator in WWII.

Among the more than 20 members of the armed forces hospitalized at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center on is 94-year-old veteran Joseph Stenglein. 

He served with the United States Army in WWII in 1948 as a map designer. After his tour of duty he returned to his childhood home in Lindenhurst where he has lived for the past 90 years.

“Your visit today made my day,” said Stenglein. “I have not thought about my days in the army for awhile. Thanks for the honor.”

Shown visiting him on Veterans Day are Good Samaritan nurse Diane Lippe, RN, Gold Star Mom, Dawn Esposito, LPN and Krystal Keenan, RN. The group presented Stenglein with a Veterans Day pin in honor of his years of service to his country.
