Lion Lights to Illuminate West Islip Saturday

Candles will be lit across the community to support residents affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Residents are encouraged to light candles and display them in front of their homes Saturday as part of a community-wide demonstration of support for those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

The event, known as "Lion Lights," is spearheaded by the West Islip Lionheart Foundation, which has provided clothing, food, and funds to West Islip families in need in the wake of the Oct. 29 storm. To date, Lionheart has raised more than $40,000 for Sandy victims.

Luminary kits containing cups of bird seed, candles and white bags have been distributed to students throughout the district to bring home. Those in the area without school-age children can pick up kits at Our Little Italy Pizzeria, West Islip Wines and Liquors, and the Lion's Den.The supplies for the luminaries were donated by local organizations.

Community members are asked to light the candles and place them on the curbside in front of their homes at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15. In the case of rain, the display will occur at the same time on Sunday.

You can thank all these POS politicians for the new gun legislation designed to make law abidingRead More citizens give up their second amendment rights out of sheer frustration and incontinence of owning a gun legally for increases in savage on citizen violence. This is only the beginning and in short time many New Yorker's will be forced to remain in their homes fearing one of these animals will make them their pray. I for one believe in the old adage, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
