Islip Town Snow Clearing Effort on Third Round
1,200 miles of roadway was cleared twice by early Friday morning.
Islip Town received roughly 50 calls from residents with storm concerns since the first snow storm of 2014 hit Thursday evening, according to a spokesperson, and as of Friday at 7:30 a.m. the town's work crews were on their third round of clearing streets.
"We have been here through the night. All of our crews have been out since yesterday and a total of 350 to 400 pieces of equipment are in use including additional state DOT trucks provided this morning," town spokesperson Inez Birbiglia told Patch in an email.
Between late Thursday night and the early morning hours of Friday town vehicles cleared all streets, roughly about 1,200 miles of roadway, at least twice, noted Birbiglia.
