Get Out: Guide For The Weekend

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

West Islip Patch is coming to the rescue.  Check our picks for the activities to hit and new bars/restaurants/shops to explore.

1.  The Health & Wellness Alliance 5K Fun Run Walk and Jogathon and (new) Kid's Dash

When/Where:  West Islip Senior High School (Sunday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.)

Why Go:  Come join this fun event for a good cause.  The first pre-registered 1,000 participants will will receive a t-shirt.  All 5K Fun Run participants must be registered at the high school by 10:30 a.m

Pricing:  If registered with the D.O. Athletic Department before Feb. 14th: $5 a person and $18 for family of 4 or more.

If registered between Feb. 15-25 and on the day of the race: $8 per person and $20 for family of 4 or more.  (See attached PDF registration form.)

2.  Long Island Photowalk Heads To Greenport

When/Where: 110 Front St. Greenport (Saturday, 2:30 p.m.)

Why Go:  If you have any degree of interest in , join this wonderful opportunity to walk around beautiful Long Island sites for an afternoon of exploring.  The walk is two hours long, and there will be optional sunset shooting opportunities at Inlet Pond County Park on the Long Island Sound.  Greenport has historical significance as being a New England port facility during the colonial era.

3.  Selling Your Home From Start to Sold

When/Where: Century21 Bay's Edge 8 S Main St. S, Sayville (Sunday, 1-3 p.m.)

Why Go:  If you have any questions about any stage of the process of selling your house, this is a great chance to get answers.  There will be a NY State licensed home inspector, licensed real estate brokers, attorneys, and mortgage brokers to assist you.

4.  Great South Bay Audubon Children's Program

When/Where:  Great South Bay Audubon Society (Sunday, 1-2:30 p.m.)

Why Go:  If you have kids and are looking for an educational and fun event coming up, this is a great selection.  Hosted by the Great South Bay Audubon Children's Society, this program is designed to give a unique and interesting learning experience about marine life.  Given by a marine expert from Cornell Cooperative Extension, the presentation is 50 minuets long.

5.  5th Annual St. John's Handball Festival

When/Where:  Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sayville (Sunday, 4 p.m.)

Who Go:  For a fun event for everyone, the handball festival at St. John's is the perfect choice.  There will be nine handbell choirs, and will be run by guest conductor Carol Roman.  He will also present a concert featuring a solo and massed ringing performance.
