Breast Cancer Coalition Receives Additional Donations From Students

Youngsters, staff at Oquenock, Bayview and Manetuck pitch in to help local organization.

For the second time in less than a week, elementary students and staff members at three West Islip schools donated a host of items to the West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition (WIBCC).

This past Wednesday, Margaret Campise, president of the breast cancer coalition, and Dorathy MacManus, a coalition member, visited , and schools to reap the rewards of the efforts of the youngsters as well as faculty members.

All items donated will be used by the WIBCC as raffle prizes as the various fundraisers the organization has planned throughout the year.

A by Patch, the idea of getting students at the school district’s six elementary schools involved in the fundraising efforts started with Dan Hunter, principal at Paul J. Bellew Elementary School, following a discussion with Campise.

Hunter reached out to the school district’s five other elementary school principals in an effort to get their participation in the fundraising effort.

Politics get dirty enough as is and I think this will increase participation and ultimately give us a better Board of Education.
