A Zumbathon is a great way to put “fun” back into fundraising. Eastern Suffolk BOCES Masera Learning Center (MLC) held a Zumbathon to raise funds but, most importantly to raise awareness about autism.
The event drew more than 50 people and the gymnasium was transformed into an exhilarating group exercise class. The cost was $15 per person and the instructors were volunteers from Gold’s Gym in Islip and Lucille Roberts in Bohemia.
The Zumbathon raised $1400 for the MLC Applied Behavior Analysis – Parent Teacher Organization (ABA-PTO). Community members, staff, and parents came out to dance and sweat for the students.
The next Zumbathon at MLC, West Islip will be held Friday, March 1, 2012 at 7 pm.
