Talk Back: Breathalyzers at Prom

School districts across Long Island plan to conduct sobriety tests at prom if necessary.

In an attempt to curb pre-prom drinking, several school districts across Long Island, including West Islip, plan to conduct sobriety tests on students who chaperones suspect have been drinking, according to a Newsday report.

A growing number of districts, most recently Smithtown, are also purchasing breath-detection devices. School administrators and teachers are receiving special training to use the devices and perform sobriety tets.
