Guilds of Good Samaritan Honored

The hospital volunteers were recently recognized for their unmatched dedication and hard work.

Good Samaritan Hospital recently announced that Gov. Andrew Cuomo affirmed May 11, 2011 to be Health Care Auxilian Day, in honor of the many community-based volunteers who donate more than five million hours of service annually to health care facilities across the state.

It just so happens that the volunteers of the Guilds of Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center qualify as some of these people.

“I have made wonderful, lifelong friends over the past 40 years, as a volunteer at Good Samaritan,” said Claire Runyon, a member of the Guilds.

Good Sam said that during the past year, the Guilds have contributed more than $258,000 to benefit the medical center.  Money is raised through craft and vendor sales, the gift shop, the thrift shop and flower sales, which Patch has documented.

According to the hospital, the Guilds were recently honored at a volunteer awards luncheon, where more than 150 volunteers were recognized for collectively contributing more than 39,000 hours in 2010.

Three Guild volunteers in particular; Rosella Brink, Inge Luttmann and Runyon, were honored for their 30,000 hours each in volunteer work to date, the hospital said.
