Anti-7-Eleven Letter Arrives at West Islip Homes [PHOTOS]

Letter mailed to residents encourages public to attend Planning Board Hearing Thursday.

An anonymous letter railing against the on Udall and Muncey Roads was mailed to homes across West Islip over the weekend.

The two-sided letter, titled "Say No To 7-11" outlines alleged reasons to oppose the construction of the convenience store in the neighborhood, which include saftey concerns and the potential for the store to compete with small businesses.

One letter obtained by Patch was mailed to a West Islip home via U.S. mail on Saturday and was postmarked July 20 in Middle Island, NY. There was no return address on the envelope. The mailing address was typed on a pre-written label.

The author of the letter also encourages residents to attend the , during which a hearing is scheduled for the property. The letter urges readers to "Be there, be heard!"

The proposed 7-Eleven would sit at the corner of Udall Rd. and Muncey Rd., replacing the that currently sits there.

The owners of the location — Jon Halperin, Peter Halperin and Stephen Halperin are requesting a zoning change and a Planning Board Special Permit for a convenience store. Site plan modifications are also required as part of the application.
